To See or Not To See...

When I was 10 years old, I started wearing glasses. My prescription was pretty bad, so they were really thick lenses. When I was 11, I started wearing contact lenses. This was great because I have an astigmatism in both eyes and so I wore lenses that helped correct it. I could see so much better in contacts rather than glasses. I was thrilled!

So, since then I have been wearing contact lenses or glasses everyday. I could not see a thing without them. With my eyes, I could only wear the two week disposable lenses that you can't sleep in.

Complaints:
1. Contact lenses added at least 20 minutes total to my daily routine. This included morning, night, and daily fussing for whatever reason.
2. I could never travel without a backup pair of contacts as well as my glasses.
3. Money, money, money. Solution, cases, contacts, glasses (frames and lenses).
4. A tiny particle of dust would send my contacts into a tailspin and my eyes would feel like I had a rock in them.
5. The later it got in the day, the drier my eyes would get and the more tired I would feel.
6. Whenever I woke up I had to search the night table for my glasses. I tipped over numerous glasses of water doing this. : )
7. I still was not 20/20 in contact lenses and so I would still have to squint to see far away.
8. Etc.

Then.....I decided to say goodbye to my contact woes and see if I was a candidate for LASIK.
I was!!!! Here is my LASIK experience....

I would wish for a day without glasses or contacts! : )

Not being able to see clearly had some severe disadvantages.

Even though I am a gifted athlete (ha!), sports were often more challenging than they should be...

On my way to surgery! I had to wear my glasses for two weeks beforehand.

On my way home! The procedure was virtually painless and lasted about 3-4 minutes per eye. I even got to wear these super cool eye shields on the way home. My eyesight was blurry, but already getting better.

Seth thought it would be "cute" to take a picture of me sleeping after the surgery. Although there is Nothing cute about this picture, I am sharing it as part of the experience. : ) They give you a sleeping pill to take when you get home so that you can sleep through the day. I also get to wear these eye shields for two weeks every night.

The day after my surgery..... after my follow-up visit to the Doctor. I am painfree and very happy!!

The results?

Before Lasik:
20/400 in my right eye, and off the chart in my left eye.

After Lasik:
20/15 in both eyes. YAY!

Carrie--This post was hilarious. The football shots made me LOL!

I'm so happy for you....and extremely jealous. If I admit it to you, is it still wrong to covet your eyes??? :)

Who took that football shot? Awesome! And isn't it fun to experience your world thinking "this is how I want it to look on the blog"? Pretty soon you'll start taking random pictures of your shopping cart while you're in the grocery store like me!

Isn't it the absolute greatest feeling in the world to FINALLY be able to see? It's been almost 2 years since my surgery, and I still absolutely marvel at the fact that I can wake up in the middle of the night, open my eyes, and see the alarm clock. It is truly amazing what Heavenly Father blesses us with through science and technology. I feel like I've purchased high definition vision after looking through normal staticy vision since 3rd grade. And just think, soon you won't wake up with tape residue all over your face when you stop wearing the shields. It's the gift that keeps giving.
